I was climbing a ladder to cut some dry branches from an old apple tree when my dog suddenly began barking loudly and pulling at my pant leg. At first, I thought he was just playing or acting strangely, and I even got annoyed because I was worried he might knock me off the ladder. 😱
But he wouldn’t stop. He kept tugging harder and barking as if he desperately wanted me to climb down. I tried to shoo him away, but he grabbed my pants with his teeth and pulled again.
Annoyed, I finally climbed down and locked him in his kennel so I could finish the job in peace.
Just as I walked back to the ladder and put my foot on the first step, I heard a loud crack above my head. When I looked up, a huge dry branch suddenly broke off the tree and crashed to the ground exactly where I had been standing seconds earlier. 😨
My heart started pounding as I realized what had just happened.
My dog hadn’t been bothering me at all — he had been trying to warn me. Somehow, he sensed the danger before I did and forced me to get down from the ladder.
When I opened the kennel, he calmly looked at me, wagging his tail. I hugged him tightly and whispered, “You saved my life.”
From that moment on, I never ignored my dog’s instincts again.
